(1) Limits of built-on areas were defined under the Urban and Rural Property Tax Ordinances.
(2) Includes 14,917 dunums owned by communities other than Arabs or Jews.
(3) Includes 37,428 dunums of state domain of which 22,703 are roads, railway tracks, etc.
(4) Not all land classified as ‘non-cultivable’ is strictly speaking not cultivated by Arab
farmers. Except for lands around the Dead Sea and sand dunes, other lands were cultivated under
a ‘patch cultivation’ system. Such land was non-taxable because of low yield and the fact that the
costs of production were greater than the gross income.
(5) Includes 45,529 dunums owned by communities other than Arabs or Jews.
(6) Includes 141,139 dunums of roads, railway tracks, etc.
(7) This area appears in the ‘Village Statistics 1945’ under the Beersheba sub-district as
Uncultivable Land, ownership thereof unassigned between the bedouin tribes which inhabit the
region and the Government.
