The Arab Revolt of 1936-1939 in Palestine: A Study Based on Oral Sources (ص 18)
المحتوى
Being stateless people, the oral history and collective memory are
of special significance to the Palestinians, or means by which they were
able during 42 years after the destruction of their economic, social and
political structures to retain and preserve their identity, culture and
history. Through oral history they are able to compensate for the lack of
official institutions to document their own history and preserve it.
Especially as the official history of Palestine was written by its colonisers,
which ignored the voice of the Palestinians themselves. As David Henige
puts it “ History like the Third World, needed to be decolonised, to be
rescued from the tyranny of official documentation, to be allowed to
study all facts of the past" (New York 1982), this could not be more true
than in the case of the Palestinians.
